Here are some of the ways St. Andrew's is Making a Difference locally and globally.
The House Next Door (HND) was established in 2002 to provide housing and support for a family during their transition from homelessness to independent living. St. Andrew's is the only faith based group in San Mateo providing this type of a facility as part of the "Bridges" program of Shelter Network, a countywide agency for the homeless.
Home & Hope (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network) is a network of 30 congregations on the Peninsula providing a homeless shelter for families entering into San Mateo County's homeless programs. St. Andrew's partners with hosting the site six weeks out of the year at Transfiguration Episcopal Church. Hosting involves providing dinners, playtime with the children, and overnight chaperoning.
Shelter Networkis the leading provider of housing and support services for homless families and individuals on the Peninsula. In addition to financial support, St. Andrew's collects and donates items needed by the members of the program. St. Andrew's also provides the House Next Door to clients of Shelter Network participating in the "Bridges" program.
Help One Childis a Christian ministry finding homes and helpers for foster families and foster-adopt children in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. St. Andrew's raises monies each year for scholarships for individuals and famlies to attend a special week of summer camp at Mt. Cross Bible Camp in Felton, CA, a ministry of the Lutheran Outdoor Ministries of Northern California. ELCA Disaster Relief Fund provides assistance to victims of major disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004, Fires in Lake Tahoe and S. Calif. of 2007, the Eathquake in Haiti in 2009, and other catastrophic occasions.
